ARTIST PROOF CARD
USE TEXT NAVIGATION INSTEAD
Acrylic gouache on board. Done for the first "you
make the card" Magic:the Gathering contest
at Wizards of the Coast; three sketches were
commissioned, with one chosen
by the fans. Although it's a piece that
was destined for a card, I gave the piece some more self-indulgent room
on the top and bottom. I figured it might be used for ads or something.
When I went to a WoTC-sponsored event in
Bangkok last summer, the promotions people had printed this
sucker on a banner forty
feet high! I based the body on the original sketch chosen,
and then added some more simian proportions and a tail for better visual
balance. I shrunk his head a bit to boost up the scale on the overall
